99% of the time, as a seller, I leave feedback as soon as payment clears.
I used to be somebody, now I'm just a coin collector. Recipient of the coveted "You Suck" award, April 2009 for cherrypicking a 1833 CBHD LM-5, and April 2022 for a 1835 LM-12, and again in Aug 2012 for picking off a 1952 FS-902.
I just leave feedback that's positive if they've come around me. That's a sign that they crossed the bridge into my territory and it's up to me to be hospitable, friendly, courteous and kind to my customers.
Remembering that the customer is always right has served me well throughout the years.

Opinions differ. Now that sellers cannot leave negative or neutral feedback for problem buyers any more, many sellers have seriously curtailed leaving feedback. Why bother? It's not indicative of anything.
I agree with the previous posts...when selling I leave feedback as soon as payment clears. I want the buyer to know I am happy with the performance of their side of the deal. In addition to leaving feedback, I usually use EBAY's 'contact the buyer' feature to confirm to them that I appreciate their prompt payment and to let them know their coin has been packaged and shipped.
<< <i>When the buyer pays, he can do no more. That's his end of the deal. I leave feedback then. >>
He can demand a refund even if its as described. He can dispute it for no reason to rip you off. There is plenty he can do. Paying for it alone just means he followed the rules. But, thats the way ebay has things set up now, I wish someone would come along and make a site that can compete.
This has been discussed many times here. I don't think there is a "right" way to do it. Many folks seem to feel strongly about which party should leave feedback first, and nothing will change their positions. Personally, as a seller, I leave feedback when payment is received unless (this is rare) something has caused me to suspect I might have a "problem" buyer. As a buyer, I feel that I should receive feedback first, but I seldom do. Actually, considering that sellers only have the choice of leaving positive feedack or none, does it really matter any more? ...and you're going to treat every honest, sincere, and legitimate buyer as such?
Thanks folks, this new system is pretty weird, Positive feedback only from the seller? I still do not understand the reasoning behind that but then again, it's probably set up so no one knows.

Since you cant leave a negative feedback for a buyer then I always leave a positive as soon as I am paid. That promotes getting one in return. But, its not a fair system. Buyer has too much leverage to make you do things you shouldnt have to.
Not long ago, I sold a mint-sealed platinum set on the bay, and left positive feedback for the buyer immediately after he paid.
I sent the set registered mail. The buyer received it, opened it, and -- without ever once contacting me -- immediately filed a paypal dispute claiming it was "significantly not as described" because of an alleged open capsule (again, this was a sealed box sale).
The $3800 payment is in limbo while I wait for paypal's decision. If they allow the buyer to cancel the sale, he gets his $ back and I get an open box, containing whatever coins the buyer decides to return to me. Meanwhile, I have nothing for the next 30 days -- no $, and no coins.
The fact that the buyer now has feedback from me noting his prompt payment is icing on the cake; he can still neg me and my feedback makes it look like he's a good guy.
My advice: wait for the dust to settle before singing the praises of a buyer, because payment isn't always the end of the transaction.
'feedback left for others' before making the decision
some sellers sell so much, they have programs leave feedback when payment received
the new eBay policy has some merits, but new eBay policy is determined by eBat employess not users which in the end is hurting the company they seem to like the Amazon store model
and opening up their 'monopoly' for competitors
'proxibid' has grown significantly for live auctions
As a buyer I expect feedback as soon as I have paid, Iv'e met my part of the deal. If the seller meets their end I'll leave positive feedback, if they claim they are waiting for me to leave them feedback "to make sure I am satisfied" then that is just blackmail and I don't play, and I usually don't buy from them again.
It really is that simple for me, but I understand their are slugs on ebay and sellers have to watch what they do.
Leaving Feedback is voluntary; however, eBay encourages all members to leave Feedback after each transaction is complete. There are different philosophies on whether the buyer or seller should leave Feedback first. Each member may choose the best approach to leaving Feedback.
That being said, if you're a seller, you'll find that some buyers will expect/demand that you leave feedback when they think you should even though their opinion is not an eBay requirement, and there's not really anything you can do about it.
Used to leave feedback first, after payment. Unless the buyer is known to me, I never leave it first. Can only leave a positive anyway but want the option of leaving a + with a less than nice comment, should some funny business take place.

You can thank all the scumbag sellers who were phonying up their feedback through intimidation and retaliation. This policy change is one of the best things eBay has ever done.
99% of the time I leave feedback as soon as payment clears. Sometimes it is delayed just because I got tied up doing other things and a bidder will leave feedback before I do.
