UHRDEs not to Ship by FS Deadline. How did Charlie get his coin?

When did he get it and how did he get it? Was there anything illegal involved?

Do we even know if Charlie got it back from PCGS? Doesn't PCGS have up to 6 weeks to return submissions?
  • YaHaYaHa Posts: 4,220
No nothing illegal.. Someone shipped out a bunch of coins by mistake. I called NGC yesterday and they told me they a handful of Early Release UHR were graded.

I have to admit their label for this coin kicks butt.

I suspect the PCGS monglers would say there is no other first strike labels other than PCGS and if other companies have them like the early release or first day issue it's only a Gimmick..

But again., there has been many coins shipped, how many? That number will probably never be known.

If you go back and read the thread, he mentioned that he canceled the book. The hold up maybe the books and not the coin ergo they shipped his coin out while those who didn't cancel the book will get theirs when the book is on hand. He just outsmarted every one else.

The turnaround time for most submissions is 20 - 30 days.

Cancelling the book may have freed up his order but I believe he also received the book with the coin.

Correcto. If you go back to the photos Charlie posted before sending in the UHR to PCGS you will see the book pictured. For the conspiracy theorists though it is interesting that one of the earlier posted photos of one of the early receipted UHRs on coinnetwork.com also showed a mint ad brochure for the UHR with Moy's autograph on it. (Note this one went out to one of the other lucky recipients who got his the same time as Charlie.)

Here is a link to CharlieC's postings. He says he didn't do anything special and confirms that his UHR came with the book. Not sure why the photo links are not now working for me.

Please, lie back on the comfy couch and tell me about it.

Ah, hmmmm. Do you have feelings of being followed, deceived or that someone is conspiring against you? You do?

Yes, I understand. That’s very difficult for you. We’ll soon have you feeling better. Just lie back and relax. Tell me about your thoughts…. No, I’m not recording this; just making a few notes so I don’t forget….. Certainly, you can look behind the desk. I promise you, no one is listening.

Hmmm…so do you feel the mint is keeping you from getting the coins you want?

Ahh, and also that they are doing illegal things to help others get your coins? Yes…I understand. What? Who? Oh, “Charlie…”

Yes. Who is “Charlie.” You say he is preventing you from getting your coins….and where is this “Charlie” right now? Is he here, with you?

Oh, hmmmm…does “Charlie” appear in your dreams? He does….what does he do in your dreams?

    Hmmmm…very interesting….Would you excuse me for a moment? -----

“Miss Andrews, will you please book this gentlemen for two sessions per week? And verify his insurance for treatment – use Delusional Disorder DSM-IV 297.1 Thank you!”

Ah, now, where were we….ah, yes, tell me about this “Charlie” fellow and the coins he’s hiding from you. Oh, hmm…OK….what was it your big sister made you wear?

"Miss Andrews, please add a third session for the gentleman...."

Yes Virginia, there really is an UHR. (Courtesy of coinnetwork.com's reporting of another one received the same time as Charlie's.)

I have not seen anything to indicate they will not ship by 11 Mar 09. Has anyone else?

Simple, Charlie didn't spend all his time on the boards WHINING about it and worried about flipping it, so he got rewarded image

  • Hi. Been away. Glad to be back. See that not a great deal has changed (little info
from the mint). The 70 - UHR was shipped back to me on the 18th by PCGS. Should see
it within a few days. I have the book. It is covered in plastic. Never opened it. Not
    planning to open it.

Seems today based on what members are reporting that some are shipping today. If the population
is updated each Sunday that means each Monday morning we will have the past weeks count doesn't
it? Right now for FS UHR it shows nothing on the population. Going forward that info will be pretty good
info to have for all of us. It puts in context how many have actually gone thru PCGS.

Saw a post on the 11th for FS deadline for PCGS?. Last time I saw on NGC it was the 9th. The NGC label
does look nice. But the FS PCGS is my choice. I hope to put 2 more in route for a shot under FS if the
mint ships. I have 1 that probably will not ship any time soon.

    Talk with you later.
    Charlie.

    WHAT?!?

PCGS coughs up a 70 for their first coin but NGC only has a 69?

Wow. The world is changing indeed.
  • Good for you Charlie! ...............and thanks for sharing the all the info.

Not only did we both cancel the book, but if you look at Charlie's earlier thread you will see that he suffered the same computer glitch I did. His order form was posted showing a 12:56AM order time, not PM. Mine did the same but was shown as 12:40AM. I was surprised you all didn't notice and kept taking about FIFO, so I joined to let you know how the early shipping happened. >>

I haven't been following too closely the UHR saga (I've already promised mine to MCM, so I don't really care when it ships). But, are we saying here that a computer glitch with ordering times showing as AM caused these folks to get their's first?

This could be true, but I'm not entirely sure. Before the Mint order history page went POOF, I remember checking mine and noticing it was also AM. I think I got it in around 12:25PM, and it was showing 12:25AM. Your theory could still be right, maybe that's why the Mint page has been down for so long now, they are trying to fix the order times manually... image Guess they only shipped a few before someone noticed the "glitch"?

If I'm not mistaken, most, if not all, showed the order time as AM...mine was a 12:16AM order...and we know that's not possible...don't we? image

I have the answer to all of this. PCGS (or any of us) should sue the US Mint and demand that Charlie have his coin returned to the US Mint because it was not supposed to have been released. That way, the US Mint abides by their rule, first in, first out, AND the rest of us get a fair shot at First Strike.

That is the ONLY option. Sue baby sue.
  • The fact is, the Mint did release it. Good luck to Charlie.
