How much do coins have to be worth before BIG dealers handle them?

I realize they need margin and have large costs associated with doing business - so what value is needed?

I am beginning to realize Jefferson nickels will not be handled for many yearsimage

Why? Been putting on a lot of holiday weight have you?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

$ 86,432.00 but that number is not adjusted for current inflation.

There are some very big dealers who handle lower value coins.

They tend to handle them in large quantities though.

  • I know what you're saying. Some big dealers gloss right over my coins when I offer them because they aren't at least 4 figures. But some dealers that deal in 6 figure rarities will also deal in 3 figure widgets. All depends on the dealer and where their low cutoff line is. Mine is around $50 in most cases.

I have bought Jefferson nickels from the "Biggest" coin dealer there is (and I do not mean the US Mint). So I have no idea what the OP is even talking about.

  • Is it not hilarious that those who post here (this thread) act as if any of the BIG dealers will only buy 4 figure + coins. They don't- they will buy anything that they can make a few bucks as well- when they hype the crap out of it.

I understand what the OP is saying- what constitutes a big coin to the BIG dealer.

Odds are the common stuff not in plastic labeled ms66 or better, or PR 69dcam or better will barely look at you.

Hell even the SMALL dealers won't look at small stuff- they want the cherry on top of the pie coins, thinking I can score here with a moderate offer- not the high end. That is one reason that I hate walking into a shop - see a item I like and know the price, but yet the fool comes out with grey sheet and starts to bla blah it is worth such n such. Now sell him the same coin- and you get him pulling BLUE sheet and telling you that the item is overgraded blah blah and is only worth such n such.

I don't care what 'overhead' a dealer has- that is why he is in business to sell or even buy items- but be fair and be reasonable- not every collector has a grey/blue sheet to look at.

Maybe the community would be better off if there was a set standard for buying and selling.

  • I did a search using the term "big coin dealers", the most relevant hits, looks like contacting someone in Big Sky Montana, I wouldn't want to contact the Green Beret guy, unless you're worried about theft:
