Starting the second year of my column, "How I started". Any ideas who I should interview?
Well, I'm almost done with my first year of writing this colmn that I've been writing a column for our monthly coin club newletter about how numismatists got started in the hobby. It has been really interesting and really rewarding. Not only have I heard from some really great people in the hobby, but they all have great stories. Plus, people have said how much they like reading it so that makes me feel good too.
Here's a list of the people who I have done columns on so far:
Q. David Bowers, Rick Kay, John Kraljevich and David Lewis of Heritage Auctions (he's a Omaha Coin Club member), Laura Sperber, Roger Burdette, Cliff Mishler and Tom Reynolds ( a local large cent/ copper dealer).
I have contacted and have gotten material from these people for future columns: Brad Karoleff, David Hall, Chet Krause, Patti Finner, Ron Guth, Cameron Keiffer, and some others who haven't written back yet but have promised to send something. But I want to contact more people for future columns. If you can think of someone else I should contact for my column let me know. I'm not bashful, I'll write 'em!
What is really cool about doing this is that even though the people are so different their stories about how they got started are a lot a like in a lot of ways. I think that's cool. Plus, maybe I'll make a friend or a mentor by doing this that I'll have for the rest of my life. That's pretty cool too!
I'm going to try and get my columns on .pdf's so I can post them on our club's website so more people can read them. I'll let you know when I do that.
Thanks!

Samuel, the interviews are brilliant. For a young guy who doesn't look the part, I'm amazed at your abilities to do such good articles as these "interviews" are proving to be.

For example you could ask John Ford: “How many fake bars and other western numismatic items did you sell in your career?”
Or you could ask Abe Kosoff: “So when you skinned King Farouk alive, was his squeal high or low, and did it matter?”
For the living, you have to come up with your own questions.
<< <i>Start by interviewing the recently deceased, then oldest next – after all, they have the longevity odds stacked against them.

I don't think you will get very many answers to your questions asked of the recently deceased.

Congrats on starting your second season.

<< <i>So who did you decide on? >>
I have some great ideas but like what happened last year, I don't want to say who until I get something back from them.

edit to add:
I think my dad turned all my columns into .pdf's and sent them to airplanenut (our club's webmaster) to post on the club's website so everyone can read them.
