Finally Found: 1895-S Barber Half - But - in F-15 Raw

Trying to complete my Whitman Two Book Album
and have a problem locating nice examples of the
1895-S and 1897-P Halves in PCGS VF 20-35.

Any and all help greatly appreciated !

Hello-o-o-o-o-o-o Mr Hayes,

The 95-s is a semi-toughie in mid grades. I had to resort to buying a PCGS VF30 that in my opinion is overgraded by 10+ points. And I got stuck paying VF35+ money.

Have you checked with Tyler?

This came on eBay today:

1895-S Barber Half - PCGS XF-45

Looks a little overgraded to me, so maybe it would fit into your VF20-35 set. Since it's a .99 cent start, no reserve...maybe you could get an ok deal.

You're right - its no 45 - but its a good fit with the rest
of the Whitman.

I tracked TwoTone_VF35's auction on his VF 20 - and
I was the underbidder on that - so I know where I should be
at on this one.

Nothing like ending an auction on New Year's Eve, huh ?

Regardless of throwing in a very solid bid on the 95-S
in PCGS XF 45 - mentioned above - I was blown of of the
water with a last second snipe.

I searched hundreds of dealers' cases while at FUN - and
nothing - and I mean nothing - in a decent VF was available.

So...here I am again... asking for more help.

I searched FUN for hours looking for the 95-S and a 1905-O in VF 35 [ for another collector friend ].

Have never seen either in a PCGS 25-35 holder.

Its a decent coin and a Fine-15.

If I had realized how difficult it was locating another VF,
I would have never sold my old one last year.

Sure - anything is for sale - it took me almost 10 months to locate it - I paid twice what it was worth to any dealer,
so, as I'm also scouting for an AU 58 in a PCGS holder, I'd consider a swap.



Seriously, the coin will reside in the Whitman for many years to come.
