Does anyone know about the NY State Coin Show in Nov?

Are any dealers signed up for this? After Coin Fest, will this show be significant?

I love the venue, close by me. What do you guys say?

As much as I hate to admit it, the show you are referring to is just a glorified two day version of the monthly O.N.A. show, with a lot of part timers that continue to bring their retreads back every month, with a few exceptions. Comparing this show to the CoinFest is like comparing a Karmann Ghia to a Porsche.

  • Sorry, but what is the O.N.A show? Are any dealers going to attend that I may have heard of?

I did cherrypick a MPL from a dealer at this show.image

  • Is this organizer for real when he says 300 tables?

From what I hear... large space and high hopes... I was given an application... 2 8 ft. tables per space... so he's hoping for in the neighborhood of 100 dealers... I have no intention of going as Nov is already a very busy month for me... it is a bit of a shlep for me and if I am not mistaken it is not in one of the best neighborhoods...

I spoke with the guy who organizes the Parsippany show and he says there are only 20 or so dealers lined up right now and none of them are "big ones"...

I wish him/them well but I think it will be a tough nut to crack...

  • Is this the one that is held at Queens College?

As far as I know, this is a brand-new show (in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens, NY) on Nov. 15 and 16.

Even though there isn't a regular (or even an irregular) show in Queens, I can't imagine that the promoter will get 300 dealers to attend - there hasn't been much advertising and I haven't heard any "buzz" about the show. I can't imagine many collectors will attend (given NYC's current economic circumstances), nor can I imagine many dealers attending. (There's a smallish regular show on Long Island. You'd think that if there were much collector demand for a show out that way, that that show would grow to meet it. I haven't heard that it has grown, however.)

If you want to go to a big show in the Tri-State area, I'd suggest going to CoinFest. Jon Lerner's put in a ton of work to advertise it and to get dealers to attend.

Ouch! I grew up a stone's throw away from Flushing, Queens. To hear it described as "not in one of the best neighborhoods" pains me! To be totally honest I've heard nothing about this show but if it is at Queens college, the campus is nice and you can certainly park your car in the area. Now if the show was near Shea Stadium (the other side of Flushing), THEN I might agree about the neigborhood image

Go to CoinFest! I just learned that my daughter's basketball game is at 3 PM on the Saturday of the show, so I will be there right at 10 AM, and will stay as long as possible. Longacre autographs will be available as well for a nominal charge. image

Cool Beans, Longy... image Please be sure to bring your big old fancy check book... there are gonna be a whole bunch of coin dealers there that would just love to get your autograph (on the bottom of a nice fat check) image

I thought Gemini12398 was inquiring about the Syracuse show. You could be right.

Too bad a new 300 table show is getting little dealer participation at this point. And from the previous posts it seems that most here have discounted it.

Frankly, I might give it a shot except for two things...

First...it is during what is already a VERY busy month for shows and conflicts with a regular monthly show I am already commited to (not to mention it is competing with two other local shows besides the one I do in Old Bridge, NJ)

Second...none of the dealers I know seem to know much, if anything, about the promoter and it seems like he is trying to bite off a pretty big chunk of a show for a first time out.
