Gary, That is an outstanding looking 8S and a first year issue as well. My favorite kind and it looks a lot better than an MS61. image

Here is one more that I recently acquired from the March 2010 Baltimore Auction.
KM-114. Type IV countermark, obverse sun above volcanoes, reverse sunface in star, bow and arrow using hinged dies on an 1840 Bolivia 8 Soles. Toned.
NGC XF-45. Host coin is VERY FINE; countermark is EXTREMELY FINE.

Gary that 1827 8S is stunning too - looks 62-63 - your probably correct about the grade - this stuff is pure eye candy...

looks like the WWW and Ouch are dueling it out image that Toned EF45 C/S is unfreakin drooly too - unsure abt that grade looks way better unless I'm missing something.

OK both of you can keep at it until 2 Kopecks joins the fray image

Gary, I apologize, but I think I was your underbidder on that one. But I didn't have Mr. Eureka on the floor to ensure my success. I don't think I gave you too much of a run on it because I had to miss the live session.

    image piece, BTW! Congrats.

Not a problem. According to Andy, it was by far, the best of the four so it was worth it. At least you didn't make me bleed for it! image

Yes, I thought so too, and all I had to look at were the online images. Interesting that there were 4 in one auction.... I think you got yours at a very reasonable price.

I spoke with Cris at Heritage and he told me that there are more procs coming in Boston, though I have yet to see them in the auction preview. Save up those centavos! image

After the Hook-neck, this is my favorite reverse design for the early Mexican 8Rs. I think the Sunburst die clash only adds to it.

You guys are too cruel image

First Gary with some jaw-dropping gold and a proclam, then Bill with a stunning Durango 34/3 RM/L (with images that are making me want to pick-up my camera again). And everyone else with coins that reminded me why I enjoy this hobby... image

Alas, I cannot add to this post myself at this time. Life has been incredibly busy the last 6-8 months with work and immigration to Canada. Perhaps I'll come out of my hiding by the time NYINC come around.

In the meantime - keep sharing those beauties!

1630 Potosi (Bolivia) 8 Reales 'Royal' (NGC AU 55.) The Finest Known of only a handful of examples. This historic, first dated Royal of all South America, struck from specially prepared dies, is an extremely important coin for collectors of Latin American numismatics. UNHOLED to boot !!! image
