I liked it better before they "conserved" it!

Quote: The toning on this piece was considered undesirable by its numismatist owner.

To me, a lot of this is about a professional company fulfilling customers requirements on one particular coin and is not deemed necessary for every badly toned coin out there.

As an example of what can be done to an ugly coin vs. one that is less uglier, then the point is made about conservation.

Conservation is just that…it’s not intended to make a coin grade higher, it’s to stabilize a coin so any further deterioration is kept in check.

In this case, we assume the customer who paid to have this done was satisfied with the results and that's all that really matters.

What a train wreck... if you want a dipped coin go buy one. There are already an oversupply sitting around collecting dust in dealers' inventories and please leave the originals alone

  • I still think the real question is... what does the coin actually look like in hand?

Is the lifelessness and grayness because the coin was scanned?

Most scanners would make brand new BU state quarters look grey, dull and lifeless.
