A reality check on precious metals.
So, you think PMs are the only thing to invest in these days? Here's one I just heard on the car radio (on a PBS station) while driving my youngest to school.
One night recently a Burger King manager here in CA. noticed a person siphoning oil from a holding tank out back. The tank contained the used oil/grease from the deep friers etc. The manager called the cops who came and arrested the thief. They found the thief had halfway filled his tank of 5,000 gallons. They theorize that the thief was going to sell the grease to a biofuel conversion facility. If succesful he would have pocketed about $7,000. The thief was charged with a variety of counts including "illegal transport of inedible grease". (Which probably tells you something about Burger Kings food).
So, for all of you that are thinking that PMs are the way to invest, don't forget all the other opportunities out there!

Does BK pay to have it's used grease hauled away or is it a profit center?
Why do I pay an oil disposal fee when I get my oil changed unless there's a cost to haul away.

<< <i>Isn't that the equivalent of stealing someone's trash?

one thing i know is that when you set your trash out on the curb it is fair game
for anyone to take. imagine that is a normal FBI procedure to spy on others without
getting a search warrant. reporters do it also.

It's all a question of scale. If a farmer has a cow he has to dispose of the manure. If a feed lot has 10,000 cows they can sell the manure as fertilizer. BK was not "throwing away" the grease. It was going to recycle it themselves to get the ~$1.40 a gallon price.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
