There's money. I wonder why Heritage didn't include the history of this piece in the MS66 sale? Perhaps they had to be told of its history and NGC had to be convinced it was SP?
Everyone I talked to thought Kevin was crazy. I guess he can laugh all the way to the bank. I would bet that he remembered the stacks sale and the coin from 1990. Given how fast it happened, I can only assume that he submitted at FUN and gave it right back to Heritage on consignment.
<< <i> I viewed that Bust Half at FUN. It is a very nice coin but in no way is that a proof, in my opinion. I think NGC dropped the ball on this one. >>
That Bust Half used to be an accurately graded nice coin in an old NGC "fattie" holder. Now it is a "trap" coin for some unsuspecting rube with money to spend.

$11K wasn't a lot of money in 1990, even towards the end of the year when prices were falling. Blue sheet was $8,000 in November 1990 for a common date CBH in MS65. $14,000 in 66.
Specimen means something other than Proof. It means whatever you want it to mean. In Morgans they call it something between PL or DMPL and Proof. How about Sproof?

They didn't say it was a proof.

P.S. I did not own this coin in 1990! But I remember who did.

It means someone peed in a cup and that's what came out

I do believe there is at least one more appearance of the same coin. My vague recollection is that it was in an ANR sale, but I could easily be wrong.
