The official PSA .5 question thread----********PSA- please respond to these to keep your customers i

It seems as if PSA "dropped this bombshell" and then went into hiding about answering questions...Please ask questions here and see if we get a response from PSA..
I have a couple questions about the .5 grading scale after "sleeping" on it. Actually, I didnt sleep that well but that's another story......Anyway here goes..
1. Are we going to be able to tell whether a card has been looked at to try for the .5 bump? If not, This could create huge problems. Let's say I send everyone of my cards in to be "looked at". I keep all the one's that got a bump and I sell all my others. The person that buys all my "non-bumps" sends all them to PSA looking for a "bump". In theory, none of them should get bumped since they've already been looked at. THere are many things that could be done but must be done on the front of the flip so easiy distinguished. How bout a 9 digit cert # instead of 8? Every card graded without the .5 bump will be advertised as "This one needs to be sent in for a .5 bump"......Just a thought..
2. Are there going to be grading specials for these review's? I feel PSA is making a mistake by making everyone pay the same fee's as a raw card. I have thousands invested in my collection and feel that if I don't get all my cards looked at for bumps that I would be leaving money on the table any time I sold. That being said, I just can't afford to spend several thousand dollars to get my cards "reviewed"
3. If we are going to these "drastic measure's" for .5 grading then why, at the same time can't we get a more secure holder with the card/grade on the top edge like GAI? Might as well get all done at once. I don't want a new holder introduced in 3 years that is more secure. Then you can make more money having everyone pay to get collections in new holders.......
Keep in mind that I am not "bashing" the new grading, I would just like some answers....

That is an excellent question. Since the root of all this is for PSA to make more money, then I would have to say, no - there would not be a way to tell if a card has already been 'looked at" before. Therefore, the same card keeps getting bought, re-submitted to PSA to be "looked at" once again and then re-sold. It is a circle. They keep making money from the same card over and over.
Brilliant PSA!
As to #1, I would never send a card in for review (in its holder) if I knew PSA would label that card as a "reviewed" card. If it doesn't get the bump, its a 2 time loser and the price when you sell will drop. If it does get the bump, then it was a "slider" to begin with and the price when you sell will drop.
If they ever did that, I would just pop and re-submit raw. The bad part of that is pop and resubmits skew the population count, while reviews would just change the initial grade, it wouldn't just add to it.
I could care less what someone puts on their ebay auction or dealer website. Everyone thinks their cards are undergraded and all sellers try to maximize profit, some via false advertising. Make sure you see a good scan of any card you are paying a premium for because you think it is high end. Then you can judge for yourself. If you aren't paying the premium you really don't have a reason to complain. If you get a bump, you'll make money on the backend.
Just my opinion of course,

My Reply: In theroy no card that is ever sent back in should receive a bump but we all know that isnt the case. Look at all the crack and resub threads. Heck I had a 5 bump to 10 on my last sub. That should never occurr. Nor should a 2 to a 6, unless the card was helped along the way.

My Reply: PSA knows how much they get cracked cards over and over again. So this will further help them make more money. You have to leave the card in the holder. A grader just has to flip a coin if it will go up or not.

Bingo. Anyone who thinks that PSA has the best interest of the hobby in mind should get checked in for an evaluation.

It will avoid any potential issues if a card has been resubmitted or reviewed.
IF they do, I think the new scoring system will be eventually accepted by the hobby.

<< <i>I'm kinda surprised that nobody from PSA has at the very least made a post that doesn't consist of a link to an official statement. It might help the situation to calm down a little if someone made it a point to communicate about this. Although the message board users probably make up a small % of their business, they still make up a %. >>
Keep in mind that it's only 8:30 AM over there, so I'm sure some clarification will eventually be posted.

You make a great point. Considering that I have no clue as to when the initial announcement was posted, I wasn't sure if they might have had the chance to comment yesterday.

1- It would be crazy for PSA to label a reviewed card as reviewed. Who would ever use that service knowing there card would have that moniker attached? It's not going to happen.
2- I guarantee PSA will have a grading special again, I mean they do it every month..lol..How many $13 and $5 specials did PSA run in 2007? Like 4-5 of each? Be patient and they will offer grading deals to send reviews in.
3- New slabs would be too expensive. Simple as that.
Plus, like you said, why would they make all these changes at once when they can charge another $5 reslabbing few down the road if/when they ever make the slabs more tamper proof. It is a for profit business, its about the money plain and simple. That's not a bad thing, EVERY business is about the bottom line.
