I have/had dupes of both dates, but I couldn't let these two crusty, unmolested pieces leave town today...

Anyone wanna guess grades?

cheers,

C'dude

    Great coins.

It's hard to read the luster on your photos. I'll go 53 and 50. That eagle on the 59-C is really weak--just like it's suppose to be. Just on the basis of the reverse, you could almost guess it is either the 59-C or the 60-C.
  • I know nothing about them...or any other gold for that matter,
    But I realy like them.

The luster is subdued by their coloration & skin over the surfaces. The "scratch" going from 9 o'clock across to Lib's cheek ('59-C) is on the holder. I've always struggled at getting pics right on. I have the right camera, but not good lighting. A light box is on the Christmas list, so maybe Santa will hook me up this year. Every 1859-C reverse is completely mushy, and looks like it would otherwise grade VF, but that's how they all look (even in MS grades)... same goes for the '60-C (same reverse die was used), like RYK notes above.

    50 on both.

nice looking coins. i am quite jealous.

but crusty is not the word i would use to describe them.
i call those nice looking AUs. i need to see some dirt before i
    will say crusty.

    but boy, sweet coins!

    50 and 50.

    The 1855 is a shot 53.

    very pleasing collector coins indeed!

They're both in XF-45 holders. The '55-C is a no-brainer AU coin, in an OGH. The 59-C would have a 50/50 shot at AU. Not that I have any intentions to crack 'em out... I'll provide pics of my other '55-C in a PCGS AU-53 holder to compare w/the XF-45 coin. I actually like the XF-45 coin better than the AU-53.

I was going to say 55 and 50. At 45 they are really nice and could easily get a coveted sticker.
