Can anyone help me find out how much Byron Reed paid for his 1804 dollar?

With some help, I found out Byron Reed brought his 1804 in 1890 at the Parmelee sale. And he paid either $400 $700? for it. I also found out that it was the least paid for an 1804
dollar.

Does anyone know how much he bought it for?

Thanks image

Wouldn't have some of the original 1804's leaving the mint in the 1834-1859 era have cost a lot less than $500? Had you offered the King of Siam $500 for his 1804 (or the whole set) in 1834 he would have dumped it so fast your head would have spun.

If you translate $570 1890 dollars into 2007 dollars (assuming a 4% rate of inflation) you get ~$70,000. That coin at auction today would bring many multiples of that (I'm guessing here). I think Mr. Reed bought that coin at a real discount in 1890.
