Very interesting...can't make up my mind on it though. I love the $10 Indian design but I don't know enough about them to know if the weird coloring on this one is acceptable. It's not a bad looking coin though...aesthetically speaking.
<< <i>looks like varnish to me. how people antique things on wood.
put some wood colored varnish on it, do not let it dry, then wipe of ever so gently, allowing it to stick in the hard to get areas.
make sure it is a dull coat varnish, no gloss.
i am going to say pass.
will someone go view the coin in hand for us and tell us what they think? thanks! >>
It's a Fake!!!!!... I saw this coin being made back in 1978.. The guy dipped it in maple syrup,, baked it for awhile, then soaked it to dissolve the maple syrup off of it... I wondered what ever happened to that coin ........
<< <i> I'm wondering if the MS62 grade is a reflection of PCGS having a slight doubt as to this coin being naturally toned. >>
Then why not simply NO GRADE the coin?
I've this type of toning, on this date in particular, a number of times. I believe it is "real" toning. As to whether it is attractive is another matter. The few I've seen aren't bad but I can't tell with this one.

Improper mixture of the alloy and the copper toned?

As in, a lot of smoke damage?
Should have the grade: MS-62BN
that does not look like any copper spot(s) and copper related
discoloration i have ever seen.
but if it was copper, it sorta makes sense for it to go brown over time
right?
i hope someone can view it in hand, that would be neat.
Coin ON!

i am so untrusting of this hobby now, i can see that coin being a coin
doctor's first test.
lets patina gold to make it sell for more. hmmmm
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
Someone's attempt to artificially tone gold as they have done silver.
"Album toning"? I do not buy it. I would not buy it.
Every improperly mixed alloy planchet i've seen does NOT look like album toning. It's not an edge effect.
As in, a lot of smoke damage? "
that's about how I feel about most all similarly toned stuff. 's just me...
please don't get me wrong, some is nice, but a lot isn't. It's just gotten out of hand, sorry...
