Strange 1916-D Mercury. Is it a real D?

An ANACS 1916-D Mercury with a 'damaged mintmark'. Very strange since the rest of the coin is basically ok.

The coin looks real. Two of the four 1916-D Dimes I've had were that same die with the plugged D which is a later die stage. I think ANA nailed it correctly as damaged.

Of all places to have damage! I'm sure it's real but that is a shame. I think the seller is getting a good price for it though.

The coin is real. Too bad on the mintmark.

As far as I'm concerned, the shortest known interval of time known to man would be between the time you receive that coin and the subsequent attempt to find another one that looks right.
