I agree with basestealer on the overuse of debt in the US. I have borrowed to buy key-date coins in the past using the rationale that they were rising fast in value, so I needed to get them before they're out of reach. But in reality, there's always another bus if you miss one. Ultimately, and I didn't enjoy the coins as much because of the debt, and I would never do it again.
Now we've paid off all our consumer debt, and are working on our mortgage. Very few people can pay cash for a house, but to say that you can't own a car without going tens of thousands of dollars into debt for half a decade is ridiculous.
