"Threw him under the bus"

...has become the most overused sports cliche there is. It seems that you can't watch TV or listen to sports radio for two minutes without hearing someone say it...

Is anyone else sort of irritated by this, or am I just having a bad day?
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

Yeah, it's kind of reached and exceeded critical mass. All good verbal tools eventually get overused.

It's a necessary term, because people do some variation of it all the time, in the wider world, as well as sports, but I've started mixing in similar ones like "Thrown to the wolves" or "Tossed overboard", just to add some variety.

I think you've forgotten, "At the end of the day." That one is everywhere.
