Paid a world record by accident!

When I went online to bid for this coin I accidently moved the decimal point one tick to much to the right for my top bid. I did not catch my mistake. It was obviously 10 times higher than what I had in mind. I ended up buying the coin. Fortunately their were several underbidders and I didn't pay to much away from what I had hoped to get the coin for originally but clearly in retrospect that was scary.

Might I suggest to only leave a proxy bid online (and really only then if you or an agent has reviewed the "coin" ).

    Never mess with eBay Live!

What could happen is the "whole note - - - stacatto", meaning you intend to hit the BID NOW button when the bid is showing $500 (thinking this would be a nice rip), but by the time the computer/internet recognizes your "$500" bid, the actual floor bids have reached, say $3000, and your "input" is recognized as $3200. Pssst. You just outbid the potted palm. image

    Lucky You!!!!

BTW, nice looking coin, esp. the obverse.

Very nice coin! How much did you end up paying, if you don't mind telling us?

Yes thank you...but this was not an ebay purchase . I had reviewed the coin so I was okay with leaving my top bid ( which was clearly high bid which I intended but not by ten times due to my keypunch error that I did not catch). This one bought at major auction.

$13,000, not including the juice. It is a PCGS Proof 66 Eliasberg. 12 struck in Proof!
