Is PCGS Prices the Standard for Solid for the Grade Slabbed Coins?
In the continuing discussion of solid for the grade coins ( coins that majority of dealers/advanced collectors, who upon inspection, would say yes that meets the grade on the slab), is the PCGS price guide the standard?
It seems to me that it is due to its higher valuations.
The use of CDN and other publications, for example, would be for 'market acceptable' specimans IMO.
What are your thoughts ?

My recommendation is to become better at grading so that you don't need them to tell you what a coin is and what it worth. In or out of the plastic

It does not assume that a coin has to be holdered in a PCGS slab.
It is about focusing on the coin.
There are many coins holdered in other slabs( NGC for example) that are solid for the grade.

Grayside (Canadian) material is a different matter. ICCS and PCGS appear to be the most accepted companies, with other companies selling back of those two.

<< <i>I recently tried to sell an 1911-D MS65 St Gaudens at PCGS price list price and got laughed at.
Maybe you should have been laughed at and maybe not. If the coin was PQ, IE: solid for the grade, and better than "market acceptable" pieces of the same date and grade in other slabs, then I think you asked a fair price!

<< <i>I guess this question does not apply to darkside! >>
Yes, it does. PCGS prices realized for British Milled (Soho and afterwards anyway), and Swiss Confederation coinage (especially Shooting Talers and larger silver issues) is much more than ask for the same date/grade NGC specimen.

Is that because PCGS tends to undergrade ? Methinks that is the case.
