actually... I have to say hard to tell on that one.
I wouldn't bid for the two obvious reasons, though. As for the coin itself, it would depend on whether that edge is raised, and I can't tell by the image.

Yeah, ask the seller for a few close-ups of the edge of that puppy.
That said, 1jester has a sweet Commem Death medal which had very similar colours and it was definitely not AT.
If this coin were being sold out of the US or Europe, I'd be the first to say it's legit. The toning looks like centuries' old cabinet toning and as such looks natural to me from the picture. However, the coin being in China sends shivers running up and down my spine. Have they become this good with counterfeiting? Has the black market become so good at reproducing legitimate-looking NT coloration patterns? Boy I wouldn't want to be in the TPGs' shoes now.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
That's what bothers me the most...if the coin is a recent Counterfeit,,,and the Toning looks this legit---someone in China has MASTERED the art of Artificial Toning. Uh Oh.
The following are negative feedback rec'd by the seller in question (yes, I was bored and looked thru all the pages of feedback to find them).
never received item, never contacted me, finally returned money, beware Item# Private (Page 9)
Been trying since Dec. to resolve the counterfeit item he sold me. He ignores me Item# 2212387741
Sold me a counterfeit item and ignores even Square Trade's requests for help Item# 2212387573
Sold me a counterfeit item & continually ignores my requests for help Item# 2212387072
Only 2 negs but the second one was for 3 items all claiming to be counterfeit and would concern me a great deal. Also, why is PayPal protection only to $200 on this item? It went off for more than that and seems like he seller could not ship at all and come out $182 ahead on the deal...
One last thing, he has a total feedback of 571 from ebayers (many repeat buyers) while he has only left feedback for 92 total of which 28 of those were for items he bought.
There is a 7 day return if not satisfied, how can you get a coin authenticated in that time? Wouldn't that give him an arguement with PayPal if you tried to return the item after it was determined it was counterfeit and it took longer than 7 days?
I will not be buying anything from China until there is a little more protection offered to me as a buyer.

1836 Capped Liberty dime. My oldest US detecting find so far. I dig almost every signal I get for the most part. Go figure...
I really can't say on the taler itself, but the seller doesn't look too terrible--only 2 out of 182 people left him a neg.
Another thing that's come to mind recently, regarding the dangers of Chinese ebay sellers.. I wonder if some of the legit ones would be tempted to use the private auction feature to avoid having other people chase their bidders with overly cautious/paranoid warnings? (not saying that that's what our speculation is here, this genuinely is a tough call.)
Rick, unless you're really that bored, you don't have to flip through every page of feedback. Toolhaus.org can filter out all the negative and neutral feedback a seller or buyer has ever received--in seconds
I don't know about authenticity, but the toning is definitely artificial. This kind of toning happes when silver is soaked in high-sulfur liquid. I have a few pieces in my AT album that have identical toning.

Pay through PayPal with a credit card, and you should be covered, regardless of the outcome (nondelivery or not authentic).
