All the pics you could ever wish, hope for, or need of an 1883-CC VAM-8A Dollar

Just got it back from ANACS. A generous MS-63, previously in a stingy NGC MS-61 holder with no VAM attribution.

As of ANACS last pop report, this was a POP 0 coin with them (not Top 100 or Hot 50 so no NGC or PCGS holders)

I:3, R:6

Great lustre on this coin, plus some wow photos! But personally I think NGC had the grade right.
    When in doubt, don't.

Nice coin. I would say its MS-63 by current standards. There is just something about those two C's.

Too bad it wasn't in its original GSA holder image

Very partial to original Nixon dollars here.

Nice photos, nice VAM. I agree with Dennis this is not an MS 63 coin. Still a great coin but that cheek is very very busy.

Like I said, 63 was generous, 61 was stingy. It's a good solid MS-62 coin IMHO

What method did you use to take these pictures? (Camera, microscope, QX5, etc?)

Canon A430 Power Shot 4 MP Point and Shoot digital camera on a copystand pointed into the eyepiece of a 40x Accuscope Voyager student microscope (you focus it by moving the eye tube up and down. $45 on eBay).

Combining the microscope zoom, the camera zoom, and taking advantage of the camera resolution (4 MP) when producing an image viewed on a computer screen (1.3 MP even at 1280 x 1024) you can get some really tight shots

    Here's a zoom of the clashed n

I recently picked up an 1883-CC GSA that is a VAM 8A.

From the pics I could see the reverse clashes so I was hoping it was an 8A and sure enough...

The coin looks to be 61/62 IMO-

    Any thoughts on value?

I think the OP coin is a 63, certainly not any lower than a 62. I would gladly play 63 money for it.

The GSA, is also a 63 and, again, would gladly pay 63 money for it.

Although not a collector of VAM's, I enjoy seeing what they are.... of course, then I will have to check my CC Morgans. Cheers, RickO
