Sorry the introduction at the beginning of the game thread is so long, but it should have all the information you need.
No metal detector or knowledge of detecting is necessary to play.
Basically, the players pick targets by number before they're announced. Then the Diggers go out and dig each round, and announce what the targets were. The players who chose the targets beforehand get "virtual" credit for "finding" that particular item. At the end of the game, when all 144 targets have been dug (there are 12 rounds of 12 targets each), the person who chose the best target wins the gold coin. There are also six Second Prizes to be given away.
As of this post, Round 1 has been played, but eleven more rounds remain. You can read how Round 1 went down to see how the game works.
