Congrats... I was watching part of the Canadian auction live... an MS65 1956 Dollar went for more than I thought...

  • Don't talk to me about Heritage NYINC image I put an absentee bid on a lot and the floor took it for the same as my bid because of their crap system. I can't believe that someone can bid the same as your bid and you loose if you don't raise it. Where's earliest bid wins image

That shouldn't be....I know for a fact that during the pre-bidding via the Internet someone had an identical bid on a lot which I "sniped" at the last second, and their system informed me that I had been outbid (same amount as I). The other bidder did have the prior bid and he/she know owns the coin!!!!image

Blown out on the '68 florin which (not just sour grapes) went for crazy money when comped to other pieces recently sold.

I was going for all of the three four-piece gold Britannia sets. I only won the '87 (the one I least wanted to win based on case condition and mintages) but it was only about $70 over melt, so it's all good. I was the underbidder on the other two (the '93 and '02). Still got it for $200 less than I see it sell for on eBay.

Big lustre on that one....bigger hammer. image

I fear my meager florin collection may go wanting after that one set the bar.image

That 1868 florin is an awesome piece. It's the best example I have seen pictured.

I didn't win it, but I did go two for two and filled date holes.

I see that the 1860 copper halfpenny sold at last, for $11.5k. Mac, did you raid your petty cash for that one? image

'Fraid not. I'm mostly a business strike kinda guy. image For that amount though (or maybe a little less), I'd compromise and take a PF68DCAM Gothic Crown with the same colours as my Coronation piece. imageimage

I checked the rules. They took my bid as the opening offer which was far above the suggested starting price, it was then matched on the floor and the floor wins image I noticed that when I won a lot at torex it was for my max bid. We don't do it like that here in the UK, we operate similar to ebay in that you have a starting price and so can win at below your max bid.

  • In hindsight I should have put a few cheap bids on a few SA coins.

Most of them went for steals - certainly in stark contrast to the Remick Auction last year.

The 1893 Pond MS63 went for a small fortune though - over $6,000. image

Edit: Just to add that I didn't put on any bids because I was short of cash after purchasing the SA Proofs which I had posted on these threads.
The meaning of life ? I don't know but I am sure that coins have something to do with it.

I placed 2 bids, totaling $1850 for an estimated high of $950 in coins. I was the first place loser on both.
Hindsight being what it is, I wish I had placed all my money on just the one coin I really, really, really wanted and completed my Prussian 3 mark series. Sigh... I'll get one someday (I hope, knock on wood).
    The sorry first place loser...
