Is slab acceptability increasing in the world coin arena?

Just wondering.

Recently sold several dozen French and Russian coins on eBay. None were slabbed- all fetched multiples of Krause.

I believe it is. As an example a British grading firm has just opened.

and Canada, Great Britain. and perhaps Australia. I think with collectors becoming more aware of problem coins, slabbing will become even more acceptable. Many, many cleaned World coins have been sold not stating the cleaning. Collectors are becoming more educated and see that slabbing may prevent this.

How many older world coins have problems? I've heard that so many early US coppers have problems that collectors routinely crack coins out of slabs b/c the majority of their coins can't be slabbed anyway.
  • I think that most of the older collectors in Ireland haven't even heard of slabs.

If they have then they shun them. image(

Slabbing seems to be gaining popularity amongst the South African coin collectors though.
The meaning of life ? I don't know but I am sure that coins have something to do with it.

Is it my imagination, or are ebay results showing POOR prices for non-slabbed pieces, and NORMAL prices for slabbed? That's the impression I get, at least.

It is in the US if you are selling. Check some of slabbed coin prices in Heritage NY sale and you will see the difference between raw and slabs.3Mark

Slabbed coins have gotten hot for Polish material - both here and over there.

On this issue I'm willing to learn. Do I have to slab everything I want to sell to get fair value? (if so, please define fair)

I have a feeling that unslabbed XF or UNC world coins will still fetch a strong dollar but that soon, very soon, ordinary nice stuff will need to be slabbed to get close to value, throwing many coins into mortal peril...

It's that issue: the lengthy pause in time as the slabbing process unfolds, coupled with logistics and increased cost or the quick turnaround for 10 or 15 or more% less... (obvious exceptions notwithstanding).
