2006 Silver Eagles Unc.

Hello All,

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year. It's been ages since I've been here, but I do have a question. I am sorry if it's a repeat, I used Search and didn't find my answer.

Did the U.S. Mint issue 2 different Silver Eagles in Unc. condition for 2006? I was on one Internet retailer and it appeared that the 2006 Unc it had was a P mint eagle. The Unc. offered on usmint.gov was a W mint mark.

Are there two? If so, will there be a premium?

Thanks!
Keith

  • Yes, one through their bullion resellers (no mint mark), and one directly from them with a mint mark (W). Plus, a reverse proof, and regular proof.

The reverse proof has a P mint mark. The regular proof has a W mint mark.
In hindsight, this was a good idea. It will prevent people from taking a regular BU-W coin, with the W mint mark, and buffing up the relief to pass it off as a reverse proof on fleaBay. Thanks, Mint!
