1989 Cent Doubled 9 identification assistance

jmcu12jmcu12 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭
I was searching through some rolls and came across a 1989 cent, no mint mark (p), where the last 9 is obviously doulbed on the right and left. (sorry no pick, the scanner and camera are packed for a move). I cannot tell if other letters or numbers are doubled. They dont look to be when looking with a 10x loupe.

Is there a rarity scale/value on these? It is an error but since I am not an expert I am not sure how rare it is or what to value it at.

Thanks for help everyone!

Edited to say that I found one on ebay but as usual the picture was horrible and the description was worse.

  • I've seen what you're talking about, and it's common. It has to do with the copper plated zinc alloy and the striking of such. Possibly some type of die deterioration but we need someone like cladking to explain it. They're not rare and I wouldn't think that there's any premium at all above face. image
