Who has specialized topical collections?

I have seen that several members have very specialized topical collections, such as Ships, Bears, and Lions. I have Viking ships, and am amazed sometimes at just how large my collection has become.

When I started, I figured about 50 or maybe 60 is all that I would ever find, but after about 6 years, I now have more than 250 different pieces. I have to admit that I enjoy all of the different designs and am very happy when I find a new one that I don't have.

Who else has a very specialized collection, how long have you been working on it, and how large has it become?

Thanks,

Bob
I like Ikes!! But I especially like Viking Ships, Swedish Plate Money, and all coins Scandinavian.

  • My main collecting efforts have been for coins with sailing ship designs. I don't have them all imaged but plan on doing so this next year as an inventory.

My 3 main collections are all specialized I guess you could say. They're very focused more like. Only one of them is "topical" though. British gold (not colonial) featuring Vicky.

I guess I could see my George V commonwealth set as a topical one. I collect any silver coin type with George V's effigy on it (and even the New Guinea shilling with only his name on it). In all there are probably about 50 coins.

  • I am the BEAR man (see my sig line for my current working list).

I have doing this theme for about 18 months now.

I have recently added 3 new 2006 designs.

Right now I am only doing one design each (not multiple years with same design).

I am considering expanding my Greenland collection to include all years and since Mr. Lord
has assisted me (if he ever sends it, HaHa) in obtaining a nice 1926 50 Ore ANACS MS64
I am thinking of doing these in graded material. This would take a long time since you dont see
    many of these graded.

There are quite a few of the older coins, swiss mostly, that I dont even have on my list yet.
These are a bit costly for me, such as this one TwoKopeiki pointed out to me:

    1776 Swiss 1/2 Thaler

Does anyone know what the book price is on this one??
    Think he would take a $50 offer??image

    What's a BBL?
  • I am the Rugby man, I collect coins that were minted to commemorate rugby events. Because of limited number of coins, I collect all variations - proofs, unc.s, piedforts, etc. Twenty eight known and I have twenty-four. I've been working on it for three years.

Interesting! I'm a rugby fan too. Didn't realize there were that many rugby coins out there. I have the '91 NZ in silver, since the All-Blacks are my boys. Will have to check out the other ones.
