In three sentences or less give me one little fact about them. Pictures are also welcome as is your opinion (in one sentence , or less).

Who starts ? I wanna know ! ( The Army taught me how to get rid of boredom)

One of the typically considered Colonial issues, the Fugio cent, was not colonial and was produced for the American government. James Jarvis had a contract to deliver these and did not fulfill the requirements. They were typically underweight and not accepted easily at one cent value. The Bank of New York had a large barrel hoard of pristine uncirculated examples, nearly all extant uncirculated ones today. These were given to bank officers and special clients and many sold during vault moves. The redbook New Haven restrike is among a handful of issues that are not restrikes at all, but counterfeits from around 1860, generally associated with Joseph Mickley.

(More than three sentences, but kept it brief.)

  • The Colonies of Massachucetts, Vermont, Connecticut, and New Jersey issued authorized Coppers as their official coin of the realm. New York produced several patterns but decided against an official Copper for the Colony. Many people get started by collecting these Colonial (or really Confederation) coppers by type and/or variety.

    Many "colonials" ... aren't.

Clipping of the early silver issues was a major problem.

A Pine Tree Shilling. I read about one in an old Hardy Boys book and I have wanted a nice one ever since.
