Where to submit?

Almost all of the slabbed non-US coins I see are slabbed by NGC. But, I was wondering, where should I submit some of my world coins, NGC or PCGS or elsewhere?
I've got some Australian, Canadian, French, Chinese, Greek and Italian coins.

PCGS and NGC are both fine choices. I you have high quality condition examples, slabbing them is probably a reasonable thing to do.

Agreed, but which one is considered to be "stricter" for world coins?

    "Yes."

Seriously though, if you want strict at the higher end, I like ANACS. For Canadian material, PCGS is more market-acceptable with serious collectors than NGC or ANACS.

Both NGC and PCGS have their strengths and weaknesses. I think you see more clunkers in NGC holders simply because NGC slabs FAR more world coins than PCGS does.

For whatever reason NGC seems to be the market leader for world coins. I've also noticed that PCGS seems largely absent from slabbed world coins that are being sold.

For world coins, does PCGS carry a premium over NGC when the the same coins are graded by both TPGs? I know PCGS has a price premium over NGC for US ultra-moderns but for US classics, I sometimes see PCGS coins being offered for less than what NGC coins of the same grade have sold for.

    Excellent question!
I hope someone can answer this one for me too

Nice quote but, I already own the coin.

Except for Canada and perhaps Switzerland, no company carries a premium over the other as in US coins.

Factors like timing, good image, timing, good grade, timing, popular country, timing, seller's rep and following, are much more important in determining the final price.

So, Dimitri, I feel like you're trying to tell us something about timing... image

If there's no price difference between the two TPGs and more darkside coins are slabbed by NGC, you may be better off sending them to NGC. This is because collectors like having the same type of slabs for their coins and they may be putting their world coins in the NGC registry.

    It would appear so

Is PCGS going to start a registry for non-US coins?
  • Is PCGS going to start a registry for non-US coins?

Most likely only when it becomes profitable for them ... i.e. a lot of people start submitting a huge amount of coins from a given country.

At present the only ones open are Canada, UK, Japan, and Euro.

Canada was the first non-US country up largely because of its popularity with UK gold and Euro sets closely behind. Japan was put up largely due to the recent release of a large holding of gold coins by the Japanese government. The remainder of the UK sets ... well ... it's a slow process waiting around for new sets to be added and existing glitches corrected.
