"Men who had never shown any ability to make or increase fortunes for themselves abounded in brilliant plans for creating and increasing wealth for the country at large." Fiat Money Inflation in France, Andrew Dickson White (1912)
Here's one I stole from Russ off eBay a while back, for some absurdly low price. It cost me less than five bucks, including shipping, as I recall. Rather a no-brainer at that price. It was bright and lustrous, despite my crummy scan. I would've considered it a steal at that price if it were a small, round coin. But getting a larger septagonal-planchet off-center coin for the price was even more of a steal. I didn't make a huge sum when I resold it, but that just confirms how unrecognized some stuff like this is. A real sleeper:
Here's a 1967 Great Britain Penny, struck on a foreign planchet.... It's been suggested, based on the weight and size, that it was struck on a planchet intended for a MALAWI Penny.... Struck at the Royal MInt at that time.....
The Scan of the slab distorted the color a bit, so I also include a photo of the coin also (before slabbing)..... They called it Brown, there is still some luster.......
