Speaking of ebay schilling... is this guy(75boilermaker88) a schill?

Certainly looks suspicious here
and here?

Or is it just coincidental? that a guy with a feedback of a whopping 3 is bidding on the same coins I am bidding on??

Am I confused or are lots of forum members confused? To me, the object of shill bidding isn't to win the auctions but to drive them up and end up an underbidder. I see lots of posts accusing winning bidders of being a shill. Just what is the logic of a shill bidder winning? Thanks, Jerry

Well, the thing is, shills might cancel their bids just before the auction ends if they are still the high bidder. Either that or they are the "winner" but don't buy the coin and they relist it, looking for another sucker.

the only logic behind a shill winning is to prevent an item for selling at too low of a price. The seller/shill eats the ebay fees and figures out how to sell at the right price next time.

I don't see anthing that would indicate that he is a shill. He has won three items from three different sellers, and he has paid for them and received feedback.

Just because the bidder wins does not mean they aren't a shill. Shills frequently win since they have no way of knowing what the maximum is that the other bidders are willing to go.

That...and the quote "beware of second chance offers" comes into play as well.

Damn, that was fast! It'd be nice if eBay always took action this quick - particularly on all the Chinese counterfeit crap.

The wrong side again. Who knew.
  • Shill bidding is an interesting way for a seller to avoid paying EBAY a reserve fee. If the item sells to the shill, the final added fee can be returned by ebay by saying the buyer returned the item for full refund. This of course is totally unethical. It reminds me of those people who use to start a listing out at a penny, but had a $100 shipping charge. This was another way sellers would try to get around the reserve fee. Ebay finally shut that technique down.

You seem to have a person issue with my posts. I don't have a problem with that. Other, more useful posters, gave good responses to my question. The second chance offer being the best one.

    Thanks,

that's what got this guy busted...his shill would win, then he (original seller) would relist the item using ebay's relist function. Kind of obvious.
All the auctions that the shill won say "item was relisted"
