So, I went to the bank today..........Updated in first post with PCGS grade and image

Finally got around to sending this off to PCGS
XF40 - Karen still remains my favorite teller!
image

........to cash in my unused traveler checks from our vacation (you know, the ones the casino didn't extract). I asked my favorite teller if she had any recently turned in half-dollar rolls. She said the only thing she had was this old, battered lady. So I took her home for safe keeping.

    Nice score.

Yes, paper dollar for silver dollar. The score was secondary to the bewilderment that a Peace dollar surfaced at a bank.

Hey! That's not a 1923! Assuming it's real, is your teller getting the three-flavored popcorn tin or a fruit basket for Christmas?

    YOU SUCK!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

No way that's real... I mean, what are the chances of finding a peace $ at a bank, and THE KEY DATE of the series? You're more likely to be bitten by a shark and struck by lightning at the same time.

I'm not a Peace dollar collector nor do I have anything that could even remotely be called a passing interest. I didn't recognize the importance of the date within the series until I checked reference sources when I came home. I can't tell if it's fake or not but the way I came about it is as stated in my original post. I can post larger images if someone can tell me (from an image) if I have the genuine thing.

I see nothing that makes me think it's not real...and also nothing that makes me think it's not a HUGE RIP.

So you're about $400+ ahead--not bad for a bank visit. You need to do something really nice for the teller.

    Yep...a definite YOU SUCK!!

    Great Pic...

Edited to add: I didn't realise you hadn't had it authenticated yet...I'd weigh it first...it should go 26.7 grams. From the large images, it doesn't appeat that a mint mark has been removed, but there are a significant number of marks on this coin. I'd look at it closely under a stereomicroscope or a 20x loupe...if it's real...THEN it's a definite YOU SUCK!!

It looks to me to be authentic, though corroded. It won't slab with PCGS, however NCS will authenticate it, and details grade it if you'd like.

    Shazam! Certainly a nice score!

No, no corrosion. There are some light scratches in the left reverse field, rim dings at 1:00 and 4:00 reverse and minor bag/handling marks throughout, most noticeable in the left obverse field. Just plain old wear and tear.

Wow that is fantastic. I missed this thread first time around. Your original images don't seem to come up for me.

Wow, I'm sorry I doubted it the first time around. Definite YOU SUCK!

I rarely say it but you do suck. Thats one of the best bank scores I've ever seen.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

You wouldn't believe how long it took to get him to sit still for this.
