PS - I bought this coin among $10 face in unc and au quarters for $13. They came with a Whitman Classic album. Did I lose my shirt?

So if you're asking whether your 1983-P quarter was a good buy at $3.25, sure is! Nice coin, congrats.

I thought you could mean me so I voted for the "certain someone".

I'd call it a 62 even though it has remarkably little post strike damage. The dies were
getting up around 100,000 strikes and there is very poor fill especially on the LIBERTY.
Most of that chicken scratching is marking from the planchet that wasn't eradicated in
the strike. The services might call it a 4 since there is little marking and it's a tough date.

It's the type "d" reverse by the way which does make it more desirable. Of the about
80,000 of these surviving in unc, only about 15,000 are type "d". For less than $3 it's
    a steal.

Nice coin! Even a dinosaur like me knows that 1983 quarters in nice Unc are very difficult to find.

I know the whereabouts of an attractive, gem 1983 quarter in a P65 holder. I have seen it at a couple of coin shows in an unexpected place. I would like to buy it for my type set. How reasonable/unreasonable is $100 for one of these?

Well, Trends says $65 for that coin. Who knows how close to or far from accurate that is. I know 19th century type where they're high by a factor of 2.5, 40's and 50's Jeffersons where their numbers are a fraction of CDN pro-rata roll bid. So who knows.

I wouldn't hesitate to pay that for one that was well struck by new dies. It would have to
be fairly clean as well though.
