Lot 1437 Battle Creek 2 Auction, Sept. 05

SkyManSkyMan Posts: 9,609 ✭✭✭✭✭
The vast majority of the BC coins I bought were individual lot coins. About 2/3 of the BC coins sold by Superior in the 4 main BC auctions were paired coin lots. This is the one paired coin lot I bought. The colors are much darker than I normally like for toners, but in this case they work for me. Both coins are MS 63*.

Thank you Lloyd! Now that I've gotten the obligatory AT post, how soon do you think until I get the "oversaturated image" post?

No bad vibes Bill -- just intuition based upon recent experiences here...

Bill, I'm glad to see I was proved wrong. My first X posts with images of BC coins all had comments by people complaining about the saturation level of the images. It seems people have gotten used to how these images look. I realize each person has their own take on how a coin image should look, but I find Laura D.'s images of toned Morgans to be quite good.

Perfect example of non-symetrical Natural bag toning...wonderful toners.

I was fortunate enough a few years back to witness 3 original bags (an 85-0, 80-S and an 81-S) opened. There were some bizarre patterns on some of the coins, a few of which I would have sworn were endrollers (they had aquired straight lines in the toning from sitting against inside creases of the bags).

Love those Battle Creek colors! image

Everybody raised so much stink about them I had to get me 1 just to say I had 1. I go for the more traditional pattern.

Pretty sure mine is real. I just people would tell the truth about whether NGC actually opened the Mint bags themselves of if a dealer open them and sent them in tubes. You dealers that are sposed to know can't even get your stories straight & post different stories and then wonder why there is controversy and slam us for being suspicious? Go figure! LOL!!

Of course, if the mystery dealer put them in tubes, he might have found some other coins lying around to throw in those tubes. Why not? Perhaps some of those had been lying around his desk or an oven or a gas chamber or wherever. Perhaps, even the mint bags were placed in artificial conditions that promote toning, but we will never know. It is much easier for us to assume that the coins are all legit and NT because that is what we are told here, by people in the know who know people who know people who were in the room when the bags were opened. And their clothes still smells like sulfur if it needs to be proven. image

While I do not have a horse in this, I did recently buy too less expensive Battle Creek coins for my son's collection:

And if you think they are ugly or the photos or juiced or the coins are AT, feel free to say so. I won't be offended, and I will not call in the toned coin posse to argue the point to death. image

I agree, and from the tone, it was like "I dare you to say something..." Why bother?
