If PCGS really DID NOT Make A Mistake I'm Gonna Have A Heart Attack!!! Vam-14.19 MS62? UPDATE: My Li

Sent an 1878 8TF ANACS MS63 Vam-19 to PCGS & specified MS63 minimum grade (submission #9055928) and they DNC'd it (guess they thought it was MS62)

BUT,

they called it VAM-14-19 when they did so.

This was the ONLY one of the 10 they changed/corrected.

The other 2 DNC's they left the variety field blank (assuming because they concurred as to the Vam).

I believe the process works in such a way that Mike Faraone determines the Vam BEFORE the grade is evaluated.

If this really is 14.19, back it will go via overnight serice under the walkthru tier ASAP with "ANY" specified as the minimum!!!

FYI: PCGS has yet to grade one of these, NGC has only graded an XF45, & ANACS has only graded 1 XF40, 1 XF45 & 1 AU55.

VamLink lists values only up to AU - $5000-$7,500!!!

SURELY they just made a typo? Think? imageimage

They just want you to express it back, then they put the origional number back on it. Downgrade it one point and still make $100!!!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

It is likely a typo and they meant to verify it was indeed VAM-19 (not VAM-14.19) and just didn't go with the minimum grade. But......you never know you might get lucky. The varieties are so different that it would be a big surprise that you would have been that off on your submission.

  • I've got my fingers crossed that they are correct. If so, that is a definite YOU SUCK! So, I guess that is a provisional YOU SUCK!, if such a thing is possible.

I have seen some strange things come up on the grading sheet when a coin DNC.

THAT is the reason i don't collect Morgans. that whole fascination with VAMs is beyond me. The VAM collectors and their fascination with every nuance reminds me of Trekkies trying to speak Klingon, and ensuring they know every voice inflection that Capt. Kirk ever had. image

Can't you just check the coin yourself and see if it is a 14-19? If it is, then you've got a winner. If it's not, then it will just be the wrong coin in a slab with a typo. It either is or is not that variety.

I don't collect Morgans either, but I love VAMmers. They are the ultimate cherrypickers!

Call Mike Farrone at 1-800-447-8848 and ask him. If a VAM 14.19 has been attributed he is the guy who did it... and he'll most definately remember!!
    When in doubt, don't.

Agreed and I SHOULD have checked BEFORE I sent it in but just didn't think to make sure ANACS got it right. Perhaps THEY meant to type 14.19 & ONLY put the 19??? I should have it next week for some in depth scrutiny.

Dennis, they refuse to put you thru to Mike BUT I have his eBay ID, personal e-mail 7 PCGS e-mail. That's certainly a great idea to ask him.

EDITED TO ADD: Mike has been notified via all 3 methods alluded to above. Hopefully I'll get a reply by Monday or so.

Lemme ask you this. Is this your first experience with a clerical error by one of the minimum wage employees in the slabbing room?imageimageimageimageimage

  • No Dan. Not my 1st exposure to one of their clerical errors.

Here's what Mike just replied to me:

    Roger,
It was input as a VAM 14.19 by Receiving. Our computer would not allow them
to receive a VAM 19, so the next closest thing they could receive was a VAM
14.19. Therefore it was entered as a 14.19................Scary logic that I
    hopefully have corrected.
Thanks for the heads up. That's not a mistake we want to
    make...........Mike

    imageimageSo, I GUESS it's NOT 14.19 imageimage

Guess they have had a technical glitch entering 1878 Vam-19's? image
