does anyone have a dedicated coin cabinet?

So, the basement is finally (close) to being finished. basement wall repaired, zero water coming in, walls rebuilt, carpet replaced, moulding replaced and consumer electronics restored to funtional capacity.

so the wife says to me: good ! now we'll finally have a room where you can put all your coin stuff ! (she said "junk" actually)... That means books, camera lights, and other assorted peripherials.

humidity tends to be a bit higher down there, and the temp a bit more stable (cooler) than the rest of the house... should I bother making/searching out a cabinet of some sort with a bunch of humidity control agents in them (like an Anti-Humidor!) to store my less valuable coins ?

Anything I have of signif value is in the bank with some elemental controls. I have common morgans/peace dollar and other less valuable stuff (common darkside copper etc) here and there... if it's a nice piece I have them in airtites, otherwise, they're loose. Should I bother ?

Go to Walmart or similar store and buy a dehumidifier. You'll be amazed at how much water it can pull out of the air.

  • Gotta agree on the humidifier. Mine is 4 ft away from the safe and I ran a dedicated drain pipe two years ago, since we don't have storm drains in Georgia. I get a pretty steady flow from February through November.

I think you mean DEHUMIDIFIER and not HUMIDIFIER.

I already do have a dehumidifier but I dont run it constantly, though it does have a hose attachment, and I have easy access to drains.
Ill play with this as a test.though with winter coming it probably wont be an issue image
    thanks!
