Grey Sheet subscribers-- What should I pay for these common AU Morgans?

I'm buying two 1900-P dollars, one 1925 Peace, and one 1922-S Peace for my daughter's and my type folders. The seller told me to pay them whatever the going rate is.

Since I haven't subscribed to the Grey Sheet in over 3 years, I have little idea what the going rate is for the coins in AU53 to 55.

In a related note, I'm thinking of buying a roll of common date Buffalo nickels in G to VG to hand out to my daughter's class. How much do these run?

  • A person doesn't need a greysheet for these. Common AU Morgans $12/$13 is fair, common Peace dollars and 1921 Morgans $10/$11. Buffalos, I'm not as up to date with, but off the cuff, would say that 50/60 cents per coin is fair. The silver dollars will move up and down some with the price of silver, though not a straight correlation.

When in doubt, check Ebay for prices realized, or buy prices in ads in the backs of the magazines, for common circulated items.

Writing that, I have the 9/5 Numismatic News. It shows Covina Coin paying 80 cents for full date Buffalos, 45 cents for partial dates, $13.75 for AU Morgans, $13 for AU Peace dollars. Covina usually has among the highest offers around. I don't know how many coins they reject or downgrade to the next price lower, so I'll stand by the prices I put in the previous paragraph. Also silver was about $1 an ounce higher when their ad probably went to press.

About $3-5 over melt, I think, would be about right.

That sounds a little low. I haven't received the sheet since silver was 9.75 (last winter) but even then bid on the cheapest non-21 Morgans in AU was a little over $16. I should think $15-18 is about right.

  • Buffalos are running about $0.80/@ for full date, $0.50 @ partial date and $0.25 each for dateless buffs.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like $17 each should be fair for the silver dollars.

  • $17 is way high... We sell them all day long for $15 ea. retail. $11-$12 is what we buy them for.
