PCGS VAM submission question.....

When submitting a coin under the VAM submission program, does one need to specify the particular VAM for the coin that it is being submitted for or will PCGS check the coin for all VAMs they recognize that relate to that particular coin?

Each VAM has a different PCGS coin number. You must specify the coin number on the form,
so yes, you have to "vam it".
  • Also, the VAM must be listed as one of the varieties PCGS will grade (Top 100, Top 50, etc) See list under Variety Attribution.

You must submit your coin with a PCGS coin number that correlates to the varieties that are recognized by PCGS. They do NOT perform attribution research, only verification. The list of recognized varieties can be viewed in Acrobat Reader 6.0 or higher from the link at the PCGS homepage. • Yes, you have to specify the VAM. But the good news is that if you are wrong, and the actual VAM is a VAM that PCGS recognizes, then they will slab it with the correct VAM number. This commonly happens with the 1878's.
