Marty, I think that you are funning with us. The obverse looks like an "S" mint obverse. Come on now, fess up!!

Marty: Your 1897-O Morgan Dollar sure looks mint state from the photos that you provided, although the obverse appears to have enough contact marks that she could get market graded at AU-58 or perhaps make MS-60. That date has a huge (6x-7x) price jump from MS-60 to 63.
Looking at the coin in hand, what do you estimate she grades? image

Congrats, Marty. Your coin, IMHO, looks choice to me. Well maybe, a little baggy on the front.

    It is absolutely uncirculated, however.

Looks like a 61 to me. Nice find!!

Edited to change grade guess to 61 (obverse marks).
    When in doubt, don't.

Marty: Please let us know how this turns out. Do you think that this 1897-O Morgan got into the roll from the dealer's inventory by mistake, or did the dealer buy the roll in tact, and just not bother to check the dates of the coins.

Either way, that is a very cool and valuable find. After closer review of the photos that you have posted, I am guessing that coin would grade MS-60-62. Based upon the obverse it would likely grade MS-60 or 61. However, the stronger reverse may help to carry the overall grade up to 61 or possibly 62.

Just my opinion from a photo. You've got a better look in person. Either way, you've likely got a valuable coin there!! image

Now, the ethics question.....was this a roll from a dealer, ebay, or something else?
Will you tell the seller of the roll?

As has been discussed via PM, the dealer will share in the profit from the find.

I agree, although it looked better, grade-wise, before the dip.

Talk about a nice score in a roll. I agree with the consensus. The coin is MS, but PCGS is quite tough on 97-o's Id say you should easily see the 61 grade, 62 is not out of the question??

Great coin that escalates in value as you climb thru the ms levels??????

The pre -dip and post-dip pictures makes for an interesting comparison. I think I prefer the pre-dipped coin.
