What classic series(pre 1940's) is the least messed with?

What classic series do you believe is the least messed with? As in least amount of problem coins(from cleaning, tooling, whizzing, coloring, and fakes).

No one has ever, to my knowledge, posted a thread about a cleaned, whizzed, dipped or ATed $4 gold so that would be my guess. image

Probably 3 cent silvers --even though there are some fakes from lebanon years ago that were almost undetectable dated 1864.

My guess is that the coins that are the least collected (like Stellas image ) are the least "messed with": The odd denominations (2 and 3 cents) and shield nickels come to mind. Now that I think about it, other than colorful pfoof Jeffersons, I rarely see discussion of messing with nickels of any kind, but I am way out of my area on this.

Figure out which series of coins as a whole offers the least financial incentive to mess with and you will have your answer. One possibility that comes to mind would be business strike Three Cent Nickels, although certainly no series is immune from being "messed with".image

By the way, Robert/ RYK, I have seen some especially terrible/other-than-original Stella'simage

As far as Stellas go, many were give to prostitutes by their congressmen customers and were used in jewelry and, hence, were probably cleaned.
