I don't think it's proof because in her bun there is some weakness and also on the top of her tiara. I'd say a lovely lightly toned MS 66. Awesome coin!!

If it's a business strike, odds are very much against it grading MS66. That date is a very tough one in that condition - PCGS has only certified 7 MS66's.
The die cracks at stars 8-10, the planchet flaw in the field between Liberty's head and stars 12 -13, and a touch of weakness in the obverse strike all say business strike to me. The reverse is killer (is that a die crack running from the S and through the E in STATES to the I in PLURIBUS?). Both services, in my experience, prefer a whiter nickel or a uniform champagne toning for anything above a 65.
Does not look proof to me - a nice UNC. From the photo it looks 65-66, HOWEVER, IMHO, it could drop to as low as 63 if a twirl in the light were to reveal any marks. Grade aside, what I really like about this coin is the strike - very full corn ears on the reverse.
This monitor images coins darker than they are. What's with what appear to be either lines or toning streaks between stars 12 & 13 and the back of Miss Liberty's hair? The coin appears to be a business strike for reasons mentioned by other posters above.
If for no other reason, the minor spotting on this coin will preclude an MS 66 grade. The strike ie excellent. Typically, star seven is softly struck (it doesn't have full radials on this coin, star eight does, for comparison). The left corn is often without detail, even on MS 66 coins, yet all kernels of the left corn are there. This is quite rare for a business strike Liberty Nickel of any date.
I'd go with an MS 65 on this coin from what I see.

No, I can't - but I'll say MS65 - maybe a MS65* at NGC

VERY WELL STRUCK coin overall and nice colors too!!!
Likely a NGC MS65.
So, what's the grade?
It's a beautiful coin, Mike.
1888 nickels often come semi-PL so distinguising business strikes from proofs without seeing the edges is not as easy as other dates.
This one has a nice uniform luster beaming through. I have little doubt it's a MS coin.

I'd guess MS. I'd say 65, maybe 64. OK, I'll commit, MS 65. It has a very good strike, but not the superb strike I expect of a proof...
