Despite the fact the Sacagawea's are U-G-L-Y

My daughter and I love them and have opted to prominently display one. Actually we think they're quite cool. The others are locked safely away from human eyes.

I'm very, very close to pulling the trigger on an autographed Goodacre coin and that'll be it for the Sac's for me.

Took this snap of my Sac Lucite thingy sitting next to my U-G-L-Y vacuum tube stereo. Match made in heaven.

Cool stereo...what is that 'Extended Foreplay III' thing there one the second shelf? ...guessing at the name 'cause it is not all visible.

BTW...I like Sacagaweas too! And my YN daughter likes the Indian Princess on them also!

God knows PCGS won't attribute it !

The stereo is an old Dynaco 35 watt amp. I bought it for about $200 on eBay and it was a rust bucket. Awful. I took it apart completely, had it nickel plated and competely restored it.

The "Extended Foreplay III" is a preamplifier kit from www.bottlehead.com

Beware, old tube stuff is a niche market (kind of like coins) and is expensive turf.

But man, oh, man do those bottles look cool all lit up at night and man oh man does it ever sound great. Way better than off the shelf stuff.

I think the Sac Lucite thingy has found a home. Looks cool there and kind of sums up a couple of my expensive hobbies in one place.

I play guitar, and believe fully in the value and quality of tube amplification. That stereo setup is very cool- but nowadays, I have to have my DTS/dolby digital surround home theater! image

Reread my post and what I should have said was that was a Dynaco ST70, 35 watts per channel amp. They were kits in the late '50's all the way through the 70's or 80's. The kits were $99 each and were remarkable for the price because of the huge very high quality transformers.

One day my Circuit City stereo blew up and about a week later my wifes stereo gave up the ghost. I was about to pull the plug on a Bose system and read an article in Rolling Stone called "The Budget Audiophile".

I bought a tube receiver and a good pair of speakers and it BLEW AWAY anything I'd ever heard.

One day I'm on the web and see a photo of this Dynaco ST70 and the author intimated that it was one of his top five favorite amps of all time. I looked at the ST70 and realized I owned one. Called my Dad and he said it was still in my old room. I got it, rebuilt it and alas, sold it. Bought another one and went whole hog on it. Total rebuild including cosmetics.

You can get a rebuilt amp on the Bay for about $400 to $600. I spent about $800 rebuilding mine and I'll never sell it. Ever. They can put it in the casket with me.

Sorry for dragging you guys off topic.

I'll have to look into it at some point. Can you run several speakers off of a dynaco, or does it strictly have to be a stereo configuration?

The Dynaco ST70 is a 2 channel amp but Dynaco made a gizmo called a "Quadapter" for 4 channel sound. I don't know if you remember Quad Stereo's but they were remarkably not popular.

The way I figure it I only have 2 ears. You should hear my stereo. It's that Bottlehead preamp, Dynaco Amp and I use an iPod that has been modified to make the headphone jack a real "Line Out" device. The iPod 4th Gen's had remarkable DAC chips in them and making the jack a line out makes it like a CD or record player. Useless as an iPod now but an awesome source for a stereo. Some place called Red Wine Audio does the "iMod" for a $150 bucks or something like that.

To round it out I have a pair of LS3/5A loudspeakers. To say you can almost feel the person singing in front of you is an understatement, that and the image the speakers throw up is amazing. The one comment almost every single person has who hears my stereo is that I must have a speaker hidden somewhere and they almost always get up and look around for it. A properly set up 2 channel analog rig can stomp the pants off a digital 5 channel rig almost anyday of the week.

Disclaimer post....... My opinion of 2 channel stereo rigs should be taken with about the same grain of salt as 2 coin collectors talking about what types of coins are cooler.

What if I told you I have a tube CD player as well. Can't see it in that picture. I use it and a converted iPod mostly for a source.

Vinyl is too time consuming and expensive. (which means I'll probably do it soon).
