1977 unopened scam?

There is currently an auction that I have been watching. It is for an entire box of 1977 baseball with one pack already having been graded 7.5 by GAI. The auction throws up several red flags. No PayPal accepted over $100, private, no returns since due to the possibility of resealing. There are of other things that make me steer clear as well. I did put in a snipe for $99.99 since I would still have the protection of PayPal, now that the bid is over $100, I will be bowing out.

Anyone else see this? Thoughts?

  • So the seal on the box is broken and only one pack was graded? Seems like a definite scam to me.

Seller also has other vintage boxes up for sale with the same deal. Of course, who can know for sure if any of these already graded GAI packs were even taken from the boxes pictured behind them. And why grade only ONE pack from a 36-count wax box? I'd also be very skeptical and pass on any of these. Especially with no Paypal.

  • private? you mean private auction or private feedback? not sure i follow... more info please.

The auctions themselves are private so that no one can see who the bidders are (and possibly e-mail them). Another red flag.

And why not show the packs in the boxes?? For all we know, they could be empty!

His feedback is good, but is only 72.

My feeling is that if you have to wonder if the auction is less than legitimate, than it's really not worth bidding on in the first place. Especially with all the red flags here (no paypal over $100, private auction, low feedback, curious one-pack-graded in front of closed box). Why risk getting burned with no recourse when you can spend a few extra bucks more and rest easy?

    Bad outcome likely.

Seller's recent previous auctions not private.

Shill may have had to "buy" a previously
    listed box.

bbcexchange is always safe. Why take a
chance on a "suspicious" looking thing?
