some clad, a cannon, and a button (need help on the button)

Went out for about 4.5 hrs. today. got $1.30 in clad (which is a slow day for this park) a cannon (it's a game piece from monopoly or something as on oprevious days I found the money bag and the battleship too) and this button. The site is a public park built before 1982 but on the property is the fist jail in the city which dates to the late 1880s, so I'm not sure if I've fouind an old button or not. any button experts out there?
LM, I think you are pretty knowledgable about buttons?

I'm afraid I'm clueless on that one, though it looks old. The earlier 1800's buttons were one piece buttons with a shank like that, but seldom were they ornamented that way. Were I to make a wild guess, I would say that looks like something from the late Victorian era, so it might date to the period when the old jail you mentioned was there. I like the sort of Celtic-flavored design on it- it ties in nicely with the avatar you're using.

  • MDless, just make up a good story. Tell people that the button was ripped off during a conjugal visit at the old jail. image
