Be brutal: What's this PCI damaged 1912-S nickel worth?

It was found by a metal detectorist who is convinced he's got a $300 coin.

Opinions?

    5 cents, brutal honest answer.
  • I can't imagine it selling for more than 20 bucks, but then again, I've been surprised by the oddest things.

It should get 45 to 50..........the way prices have skyrocketed for this coin.

It wouldn't get it from me, though.

Too bad it's messed up..........that's one great date and mint.

I always think its neat when folks find key-dates with a metal detector. The value IMO, is not as significant as the find.

    brutally honest ?

Okay, the plastic is worth more than the nickel image
The grader's time figuring it out was worth more than the time that was spent searching for it.
If this guy gets $300., please let me know.... I am writing him in for president next election.

I think the holder may be rarer than the coin. At least we now know what it takes to get a red holder out of the new PCI.

2004 Guide to US Coins by coin world lists it at $200. I wouldn't pay more than 20
