What to purchase on trip to South America?

Hello all,
My mother is getting ready to take a cruise around the continent of SA and I was wondering if any of the countries issue modern silver coins that she might pick up for me.
So far I have not had any luck coming up with anything.
Your help is always greatly appreciated.
Thank youimage

I doubt any country in the world still issues silver coinage for circulation. To get silver, one would probably have to visit the mints.

It's an interesting question, but I don't really know what to answer, there. Sounds like a fun trip.

I wonder what sort of things can be gotten at banks and from circulation in the South American countries. Since many countries in South America have had several changes of government and so on, I would imagine a lot of them changed monetary systems and demonetized their older coins.

I would look for anything old, I guess. Sounds like fun.

Brazil issues silver commemoratives, which you can purchase from offices of the Brazilian Central Bank.

If your mother is going to Salvador, Brazil, the Central Bank office is right across the street from where the cruise ships dock. image
