88 fleer basketball

just purchased a wax box. i've opened one pack. most all were off-center top/bottom and very sharp corners (but i did pull a stockton and rodman from the same pack). is this a good indication of the whole box being off-centered? just curious if anyone has experience with this particular year of fleer wax before i continue ripping.

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

Well if it is all OC, what are you planning on doing if you aren't going to bust it? Pawn it off on someone else?

I opened a box in the past year and the first pack is an indication of the whole box. 90% of the cards were OC.

I don't think it is fair for him to know or not whether it is all going to be OC, just based on one pack. If he was going to sell it the rest of the packs, should he state in his auction, "opened one pack cards where off center, these packs are from the same box". No one ever really knows what they are going to get pack to pack.

    I agree Sting
If someone buys a box, gets a bunch of OCs - panics - wants to sell the rest of the box - that's the prerogative of the owner IMO. Now if the PSA Gods came down and told him that the rest of the box is OC, that would be a different story I guess.

I would say, based on my experience (3 boxes ripped) that there are a few different "print runs" in a box. You might get a series of packs that will all be OC, and then the next group might be all perfectly centered, followed by another run of OC packs. Of course, all the print runs might be OC - there is no guarantee. Tough to answer this with certainty...unopened wax is always a gamble.

A random pack in a Fleer basketball box is usually a good indication of everything else the box will yield, including print marks, rough cuts, and of course centering. One box I opened several years back had 4 Jordans, all with a yel,low print dot where the "J" was in his name. More recently, I opened a box that had very bad centering both T/B and L/R and not one card was 50/50 al around. I would cut my losses and sell the packs if I were you, unless the OC cards don't bother you. You could always pick up one pack off ebay and sell it as a complete box again.

i just opened the one pack. was looking for a few opinions on what i might expect on the rest. if i did resell any of the packs, i would not have any problems stating that i opened a few packs and let them know my results. after all, the first pack was sweet except for being off-centered. i'll open a few more when i get back in town and see how it goes.

    thanks for your opinions.

Wait. You started busting a box of wax and you STOPPED?

    That's impossible.

    Simply can't be done.

Agreed. It is just like when you lose at the casino, the next card is the card, that next pull of the slot is the one, that next....

i got in from huntsville at 2:00a and the box was on the table just waiting to be had. i popped one pack just to ease me so i could sleep...had to get up this a.m. and head to memphis. when i return, i'm sure i'll be popping the others.

i was wanting to hear ..."one pack from a wax box shouldn't dictate the rest of the box"... image

i will post some scans if interested when i'm finished.

    Thanks,

here goes. i have opened a total of 6 packs (stickers are: 2 jordans, 2 malone, 1 bird, 1 mchale). i feel i did well pulling 5 jordans from 6 packs. one pack had a jordan sticker, jordan regular card, and a jordan all-star...WOW!!! however, the centering is less than desired. here are scans of the jordans and the key rookies from the set that i pulled. i'm planning on selling the box (less the 6 packs opened). what are your thoughts? also, what do you think about the centering on these scans. i don't see the rest of the box yielding any nice centered cards based on the 6 packs i randomly picked out.

Wow - typical of Fleer basketball wax, but it still drives you crazy to pull all those OC cards! I opened many boxes of 88-89 Fleer, but stopped a while ago as the box prices rose, and it seemed tougher to pull anything gradeable that you could resell from one. If I remember correctly, there is probably only one more Jordan card in that box now, and odds are it will be as OC as anything in your scan. Also, I wouldn't submit anything for grading that is in the scan, but I'm sure you knew that.

Why not send them in and get them graded by Graded Rookies Authenticated, they should come back Gem Mint++++++ with no qualifiers. Or maybe just contact Nomar and try selling everything that way. We all know Nomar loves OC cards.
