An Odd WA Quarter Revisited

WWWWWW Posts: 2,609 ✭✭✭
Hello all, some time ago, October 4th, 2004, I posted some images of a 1994 Washington quarter I found in change that appeared to be struck on a missing clad layer or at least partially so. I decided to dip it to see what it really looked like and found that it looked more like a copper wash. OK, no big deal, I'll stash it away in a cedar box and shortly thereafter I forgot about it until today when I took a look at it. The obverse side, facing up in the box took on some wild colors for a clad coin. The reverse, still has the copper wash look to it. Bear in mind, I can't capture true copper color to save my life, but it's very bright and copper-y-ish. So, being bored, I decided to post the coin again tonight for you viewing pleasure and discussion. Additionally, the coin has some weird grooves in the fields on both sides and has some cool machine doubling as well.

What is that eerie looking face in the eagles breast on the reverse?
