Experimenting with something new for fun...

Anyone want to test out their knowledge of trading cards?

Click here for a 10-question quiz, including one question that will test just how current your knowledge is.

Hint: For the grading question, think of the standard grading scale used by collectors not grading services.

Feel free to post how you did as well. Let's see how many get between 8-10 correct on the first try. Not getting many 9s and 10s on the first try though...

I did so so 7 out of 10 . I missed the tuff stuff website ...and the founder of Beckett and the century price guide was started .

Not bad wolfbear and Axtell. 7s and 8s were about the average score. Plenty of 4s and 5s though.

I'll have to make sure the next one contains something for the vintage and PSA collectors as well.

Understood that this question may be confusing. That's why the hint was given. The "raw" grading scale typically ends at the high end with Mint. Gem Mint and Pristine are typically at the high end of "professional" grading scales. This was the thinking anyways...

Well, it seems that this has been entertaining for alot of you and really only takes a minute or two for you. We'll probably start doing these every 2 weeks or so based on the hobby press releases from the previous several weeks.

Missed the Beckett question (they are pretty irrelevant in my world anyway) and chose the highest grade as Gem as in Gem Mint.

#8 is very misleading. The general question didn't necessarily
pertain to raw or graded. I had to look at it again to see if indeed
I misread or just flat out missed something. I think the ones that
have grading on the brains all missed it. The ones that got it right
aren't hardcore enough

Point taken. If you answered Gem on that question, feel free to add .5 to your total. A score of 7.5 or 8.5 will mean more to those of you with grading on the brain anyway.

9-10, thought James Beckett was the head of Beckett. Seemed like a trick question, but I never heard of the head chief anyway.

You're correct that their web site URL has changed. Although, tuffstuffonline.com is the one I had used in the past.

It was Beckett until about 7-10 days ago. Then, a new CEO was named when Apprise Media purchased Beckett.

Even before PSA and the graded card market, "gem mint" was a known term. Mr Mint made it famous in the 80's (Gem Mint '52 Topps cards from "the find").

It's been around in the graded market for as long as I can remember. Either "10's" or "98's". Hmmmmmmmm......

Yes, he was the founder and the CEO. Now, the new CEO heads Beckett. Beckett's role is only as an advisor.

See my previous comments about the grading one, but we can say you got a 7.5.

Although, strict teachers from my past would say that Gem Mint was not an answer. Gem and Mint were separate answers.

Tuff Stuff was tuffstuffonline.com so I guess I was just out of date, I fell for the ol' Beckett trick question and the GEM question also got me. Nice quiz though.
