Appalachian Hoard Jeffersons PHOTOS

I've enjoyed collecting through the years and the story that is told regarding them. Like the Peacock Ike legend, I have my doubts as to the authenticity of these Jeffersons, but believe they are a part of Numismatic lore regardless. PCGS refused to holdered these (although I've heard of two or three that have crossed), and most of these were holdered in August, a few years back, by NGC. The "hoard" is mostly dispersed at this point and, surprisingly, few turn up for sale.

That war nickel was actually given to me by a very generous board member who I do not think posts anymore. It's in my permanent collection.

I was fortunate enough to own a few of these beautiful pieces......wish I had of kept a couple now. I just couldn't say no to the offers I had. There were some absolutely mind blowing pieces in that hoard. The intensity of the colors was incredible.
Andrew Kimmel had the consignment on the collection, and they were available on his website for years. A fellow board member had a couple of dozen of them but dispersed them when he couldn't cross them to PCGS (every coin in his collection was in pcgs holders). It was he who told me the story of how the nickels were brought intact in the rolls to NGC for grading through something silmilar to PCGS's presidential review. That's why they were holdered by ngc ......it's a shame they didn't pedigree the holders.
There is still a fair amount of the hoard back in the original owners hands, I keep hoping to see them back on the market.

Looking at Braddicks' coin, NGC did place a T for toning on most of those holders that I don't recall seeing before or since. Your's also has a star on it, did you have it reholdered with a review for the star? I didn't think they had stars back then.

My daughter has several of these coins purchased from Andy in the year 2000. All the coins were in NGC holders and carried the star designation.

I saw a bunch of Andy's coins at FUN in 2003 and got to chat with him about them. They are truely spectacular to look at. Even Lakesammam was tempted.

Andy's quote was these are five dollar coins selling for $200.
